Submitted by Marion Fearing on Sat, 08/10/2019 - 4:53pm

Please join us at the Northeast Harbor Library on Thursday, August 29th at 5:30PM to meet journalist Janny Scott and listen to her talk about her memoir "The Beneficiary: Fortune, Misfortune, and the Story of My Father," which is an investigation of the various consequences of inherited wealth in her own family as well as looking at the consequences in the future. Scott looks at the world of Philadelphia society her father, Robert Montgomery Scott (whose mother, Helen Hope Scott, was said to have inspired Katherine Hepburn's character in the play and the film "The Philadelphia Story"), grew up in and provides a look at the weight of inheritance, the tenacity of addiction, and the power of buried secrets. This is going to be an excellent talk, so make sure you stop by and get a signed copy!

Janny Scott is the author of A Singular Woman: The Untold Story of Barack Obama's Mother. She was a reporter for The New York Times from 1994 to 2009 and was a member of the Times reporting team that won the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for national reporting.
